The radio spectra of galactic nuclei

چکیده

We present a model for the inverted radio spectra of active active galactic nuclei as well as the central regions of normal galaxies. The model is based on the unified scenario for active galaxies, stating that the central engines of active galaxies consists of a supermassive black hole surrounded by an accretion disk and a radio jet. The nuclei of normal (i.e. less active) galaxies are supposed to be scaled-down versions of the same phenomenon. We show that the radio emission of a jet component, becoming optically thin to the radio emission of a monoenergetic pair plasma at decreasing frequencies as itmoves outward and expands, is well suited to explain the observational results. We present a model calculation for the special case of the nucleus of M 81.

AGN Zoo and Classications of Active Galaxies

We review the variety of Active Galactic Nuclei (AGN) classes (so-calledAGN zoo") and classification schemes of galaxies by activity types based on their optical emission-line spectrum, as well as other parameters and other than optical wave-length ranges. A historical overview of discoveries of various types of active galaxies is given, including Seyfert galaxies, radio galaxies, QSOs, BL Lace...

Multifrequency Studies of Active Galactic Nuclei in the Planck Satellite Era

The multi-epoch single-survey Planck satellite data have given a rare glimpse into how the radio spectra of active galactic nuclei (AGN) evolve in time. Using Planck and simultaneous auxiliary radio data ranging from 1 GHz to 857 GHz, spectra for 104 bright northern extragalactic radio sources (most of them AGN) have been assembled; in these, the various stages of flare development can be ident...

A high-frequency radio survey of low-luminosity active galactic nuclei

We investigate the high-frequency radio spectra of twenty low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs) with compact radio cores. Our millimetre survey with the Nobeyama Millimetre Array (NMA) and analyses of submillimetre archival data that had been obtained with the Submillimetre Common User Bolometer Array (SCUBA) on the James Clerk Maxwell Telescope (JCMT) reveal the following properties. ...

Evidence for Jet Domination of the Nuclear Radio Emission in Low-luminosity Active Galactic Nuclei

We present simultaneous, sub-arcsecond (≤ 50 pc) resolution 5 GHz, 8.4 GHz, and 15 GHz VLAa observations of a well-defined sample of sixteen low-luminosity active galactic nuclei (LLAGNs). The radio emission in most of these nuclei does not show the rising spectrum (0.2. s . 1.3, Lν ∝ νs) expected from thermal electrons in an advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) with or without weak to mod...
